New South Wales and Victoria work to bring back International Students to Australia who could not reach due to the Covid travel ban by the end of 2021
New South Wales and Victoria, which have the highest number of international students in Australia, are planning to bring in international students. Both states plan to bring in students by the end of 2021. To this end, the NSW government plans to provide special quarantine facilities for international students.
This will be different from the current quarantine facilities for returning passengers. A panel of quarantine centers is being set up, including institutions that provide Purpose Built Student Accommodation (PBSA).
The NSW Treasury has asked interested PBSA providers to come forward for this. As part of the project, these accommodations will be inspected and ensured by NSW Police, NSW Health, Fire, and Rescue NSW.
NSW Treasurer Dominic Perotate’s said the New South Wales government was working with universities, health officials, and police to implement the plan. As of April 6, there were 55,137 students living abroad enrolled in New South Wales. The project aims to revitalize the education sector in crisis.
With the resumption of the Quarantine Hotel project in Victoria on April 8, the state government had asked the federal government to set aside 120 additional spaces for international students and immigrants.
